speech presented by kondi to welcome new students

to all the teachers, both old and new students i say good morning.

it is my honour to stand before you and deliver this speech of welcoming remarks to our newly enrowed students of the 2022 chongqing university of posts and telecommunications academic year.

i welcome you all to cqupt and chongqing at large. am sure you will all at some point get lost or confused more than once as it is inevitable being in a new environment. but, am equally sure we will all enjoy this new beginning together.

many of you are wondering how life will be like in a world and living environment so different from high school, former college, or that of your family home.

well to be honest my first months here 3 years ago, i wondered why i was here and even after i wondered why everyone else was here……… learning in a foreign language everything seemed not to make any sense. i shared these thoughts with a senior student who i met here and all he had to say was that i would either way fail my entire courses in the first year. these words did not heal my wounded thoughts but left me with unsettled thoughts of how i was going to make it through. am glad to stand here today and testify that i have not once failed a course since my sophomore year. this did not however happen by luck but through hard work, discipline and persistence.

everyone here belongs and each and every one of you newly enrolled students will find your place. there will be many things, many traditions that you will come to know. but you will come to understand what i believe is most important about this place—that it is the centre of new and original thought and ideas. and it is ideas that are ultimately most important in this world.

cqupt provides an environment good to both learn and grow as an individual and as a part of a community. do not wait to be told or pushed to join an extracurricular activity e.g sports meetings, school organised competitions etc, all these activities are organised for us students and it is up to us to organise ourselves and enjoy these activities together. as the saying goes all work not play makes jack a dull boy.

one question you should keep asking yourself whilst here is, how do i make the most of my time here. it is ok keep refining your answer as time goes by putting into mind that you are only here for some time and not forever, and what you want to make is the very best and the best of memories out it.

with that said i welcome you all once again and wish you nothing but the very best cqupt has to offer.

win at the starting line next i’m going to give you some suggestions to help you manage your college life better. suggestion1: learn as much as possible. for most of us college can be an unforgettable period for us to learn something. some one once said that university is like a dye vat, which means that you may be easily influenced by others. if you want to learn something you will be embraced by knowledge and wisdom; and if you don’t have the desire to learn you will find you get nothing after 4 years’ college life. suggestion2: cultivate your potentials and interests. suggestion3: always be optimistic and hopeful. (中文譯文) 大家下午好，今天非常高興能和這么多新鮮的面孔相聚于此。我叫王xx，大四1101班的學生，今天感到萬分榮幸能在這和大家分享自己的經(jīng)歷并且在你們大學生活剛開始的時候給你們一些建議。 其實我十分好奇你們在這樣一個時間點對于一場精彩大學生活的定義。有人曾經(jīng)抱怨說大學四年完全是浪費時間和金錢, 對此，你們是這樣認為的嗎?答案是否定的。我想告訴大家的是，只要你們好好經(jīng)營自己的大學生活，它將成為你們?nèi)松械膶氋F財富。 接下來我想和大家簡單分享一下我大學的經(jīng)歷。我始終記得我大一的這個時候一位學姐在這個臺上給我們分享經(jīng)驗的場景。我當時被她的英語口語深深震撼了，因而決定努力奮斗，爭取達到像她一樣的水平。所以，我在大學期間所做的其實就是充分利用大學的各種資源發(fā)展自己的潛力，提升自己的水平。大一的時候，我像高中那樣刻苦學習，從不逃課，上課認真聽講，課后認真復(fù)習，獨立完成作業(yè)。那個時候，大學對于我來說是一個全新的人生階段，我必須想辦法讓自己盡快適應(yīng)它。為了提高自己的能力，我積極參加各種各樣的活動和社團，諸如加入學生會、走訪敬老院、街頭義務(wù)賣報、紅歌合唱比賽及朗誦比賽等。通過一年的努力，我的能力在很大程度上得到了提高。大二一年，對我來說是一個非常重要的轉(zhuǎn)折點。我嘗試著學習盡可能多的知識并將其運用到實踐中。第十八屆中國日報社21世紀杯全國英語演講比賽就是我大學生活中仍舊光彩奪目的一筆，我非常幸運地獲得了學校的特等獎。但其實名次遠遠不是最重要的，重要的是我從這個比賽中真的收獲了很多。很明顯，我的英語演講能力得到了一定程度的提升，從此不再懼怕在公眾面前發(fā)言，同時我也認識了一些在英語方面志同道合的朋友，能一起共享英語學習心得。其他諸如湖北省翻譯大賽等，我就不在此一一贅述。此外，社會志愿活動也值得一提。xx年7月，我有幸能夠作為一名志愿者赴新加坡參與第二屆xx國際傳統(tǒng)武術(shù)大賽。同樣也是我人生中一次有價值的體驗，我親身感受了一種不同的文化，開闊了眼界。在這里，我想告訴大家的是，大學是我們?nèi)松贸讨幸粋€綜合的平臺，我們應(yīng)該抓住每一個提升自己的機會，只要這樣才能得到成長。 大三這一年對于我的成長進步又是一次巨大的飛躍。有了前兩年打下的英語基礎(chǔ)，我參加了更多重要的學科競賽，獲得中央電視臺“希望之星”英語風采大賽湖北省決賽一等獎、第五屆海峽兩岸口譯大賽一等獎、全國大學生英語競賽一等獎等。經(jīng)過這樣一系列的賽事，我對英語學習的道路更加有信心。接下來，我會給大家一些建議，以幫助大家為自己的大學時光增光添彩。 建議一：涉獵知識，充實自己 對于在座的大多數(shù)同學來說，大學四年將會是你們?nèi)松挟惓氋F的學習時光。有人曾經(jīng)作過這樣的比喻，大學就像一個染缸，這就意味著你的行為很容易會被他人左右。其實，如果你下定決心去學習，你會被知識和智慧環(huán)繞;但如果你失去了學習的欲望，你的大學四年可能會一無所得。 建議二：發(fā)揮潛力，培養(yǎng)興趣 大家都知道，相對高中來說，大學是一個綜合的平臺。我們不需要整天埋頭苦學，而是要力求全面發(fā)展，修身養(yǎng)性，找到自己的興趣所在。比如說，如果你熱愛跳舞，不妨加入舞蹈協(xié)會去鍛煉自己。大膽去展示吧!有樂趣的生活才會多姿多彩。 建議三：樂觀向上，充滿希望 可能大家聽說過，大學生活由自己主宰。有時候你會發(fā)現(xiàn)師長們不會告訴你每件事該如何處理，所以有時候?qū)ε龅降睦щy感到手足無措實屬正常。但是，請記住，生活充滿了跌宕起伏，困境僅僅只是生活的一部分。保持積極樂觀，你總會找到出路。 總之，大家應(yīng)該把自己的特點與上述建議相結(jié)合，并堅持下去，你會發(fā)現(xiàn)成功就在離你不遠的地方等著你。
